Two German reporters based in the U.S. recently had new reports about WWII German American internment on German radio. San Francisco-based Christoph Droesser’s report, “Unter Naziverdacht: Deutsche Internierte in den USA im Zweiten Weltkrieg,” was followed by “Angst vor deutschen Spionen – US Internieruongslager im Zweiten Weltkreig” in late November.
Many may remember Arndt Peltner, also from San Francisco. It was he who did one of the very first German radio programs in the early 2000s, traveling from California to New Hampshire to interview Max Ebel, Karen Ebel’s father. Arndt’s recent reprisal and update of his work, “Deutsche wurden im Zweiten Weltkrieg interniert,” aired in October. Much is in German, but you’ll hear some familiar voices in the background, John Christgau’s included.
