John Schmitz, history professor at Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale, Virginia, and author of Enemies Among Us: the Relocation, Internment & Repatriation of German, Italian & Japanese Americans During the Second World War, recently posted a video on YouTube discussing WWII policies that led to so many people being declared “enemy aliens” and subsequently being relocated, interned, and repatriated. John is the son of John Schmitz, who spent the war years interned with his family in Crystal City, Texas, and then Ellis Island. In another video, he briefly explains the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, and how its impacts are being felt today.
