John Schmitz, history professor at Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale, Virginia, and author of Enemies Among Us: the Relocation, Internment & Repatriation of German, Italian & Japanese Americans During the Second World War, alerted us to a Youtube recording of the Dutchess Community College lecture he gave about his book and internment in November 2025. John is the son of John Schmitz, who spent the war years interned with his family in Crystal City, Texas, and then Ellis Island. In another video, he briefly explains the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, and how its impacts are being felt today.
