“Detailed official” lists of internees, 1942-43

“Detailed official” lists of people of German ethnicity ordered interned—include name, date and location of birth, address when taken, next of kin and their address, occupation, and place of internment as of a specific date. Most of these internees were from the U.S., but some Hawaiian and Latin American residents are included. (These are not comprehensive lists of all internees.) For ease of viewing, we’ve broken the lists into segments, by file folders. These are large files and take time to download. Compiled by the Provost Marshal General’s Office, War Department. All are found in NARA, RG 59, State Dept, Special War Problems Division, entry A1 1357, Subject Files 1939-55, Box 199.

lists 9-12:  May 15, 26, 1942—June 6, 29, 1942

lists 13-16:  July 13, 20, 28, 1942—Aug 1, 1942 (List 15 includes Latin Americans)

lists 17, 19, 20: Aug 19, 27, 1942—September 2, 1942

lists 21-25: Sept 11, 24, 1942—Oct 9, 1942

lists 26-30: Oct 26, 1942—Nov 21, 1942—Dec 11, 1942—Jan 9, 1943, Feb 9, 1943

lists 33-43: Mar 4, 9, 30, 1943—Apr 12, 1943 (List 33 names internees from Peru, Honduras,Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, Haiti, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Lists 35, 38, 39 name internees from Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, Peru, El Salvador, Ecuador, Colombia, and Guatemala.)
